WHY SHOULD I GIVE WHAT I DON’T GET?

I have to say, one of the hardest habits to acquire is precisely that one; Give what you don’t GET. Eckhart Tolle covers this discipline under the concept of Abundance. He advices us to try it for a couple of weeks.

“Whatever you think people are withholding from you- praise, appreciation, assistance, loving care, and so on- give it to them. You don’t have it? Just act as if you had it, and it will come. Then, soon after you start giving, you will start receiving. You cannot receive what you don’t give. Outflow determines inflow”

 

“Outflow determines inflow,” how hard is this, I must say, VERY. I believe that giving love, praise, appreciation, and assistance to the people that we love and truly care for is extremely easy. That is NOT the challenge. The challenge that God wants us to conquer is to give all that to the people in our lives that have caused us pain in any given time or with the ones that we tend to not get along very well. That’s what Jesus meant when he said “Love your enemies! And pray for those who persecute you!

 

Believe me I know, when we read these words, they seem very easy to follow, but when it comes to translate those words into action and to actually practice them, that’s when the struggle kicks in.

First of all we have to understand that it is 100% okay to struggle. We are all very sensitive human beings. Even the toughest one can be easily hurt when it comes to sensitive subjects particular to them. What should we do when people hurt us?

In my personal experience, takes time, and it is okay to take time. Takes time to accept the situation, take it as an experience, DON’T TAKE IT PERSONAL, learn from it, and move ON!!!

What’s the next step after you’ve moved on? Remember Jesus, “Love your enemies! And pray for those who persecute you!

Most likely, those who have hurt you deeply are in DEEP suffering themselves. Use the following logic: HAPPY PEOPLE SPREAD JOY!!! UNHAPPY PEOPLE SPREAD DRAMA AND TROUBLE!!!

Pray for them, and ask GOD for strength and FAITH to be able to not take it personal, because unfortunately it is within our nature to take attacks towards ourselves VERY PERSONAL. God knows that, but he wants us to FIGHT!!! TRULY FIGHT OUR NATURE and become AWARE and become PRESENT. Once we become PRESENT, that’s when we will be able to GIVE what we DON’T GET from people. That’s when we will see difficult people in our lives as challenges from GOD and the Universe. We will see them as agents to bring CHANGE in our lives, just as many times GOD will use US as challenge agents to other people.

GIVE WHAT YOU DON’T GET, that’s the biggest CHALLENGE in EVERYONE’S life. Once you do it once, you’ll be bringing CHANGE to someone else’s life, GOD will notice, GOD will be with you and GOD will bring CHANGE to YOUR life too. No one better than HIM, knows about forgiveness and praying for your enemies.

Let’s give it a try 😉 When someone in particular comes to our minds that deserves the least of our attention, care or appreciation, let’s give it to them, of course expecting NOTHING in return. Let’s see what happens. You’ll be surprised!!! 😉

E.R. vs Urgent Care

Having worked in a hospital setting especially in the the E.R. I can tell you that many people use the E.R. for purposes that could have been handled faster and with the same care in  Urgent Care (if your primary care physician is not available for consult). The problem is that many people do not always know when and illness or injury should be treated at the E.R. or when the Urgent Care will be best. It is important for one to know this because there are many times when and E.R. gets backed up and people may not get the level of attention needed in a timely manner. Trust me I have seen this happen! You should  also be aware that the E.R.  is not based on a first come first serve basis, the way people are assessed is by level of severeness, usually in 3 categories:

  • Immediately life threatening
  • Urgent, but not immediately life threatening
  • Less urgent

This system is necessary so that someone with a life-threatening condition is not kept waiting because they arrive  after someone with a more routine problem. Meaning if you go in with a sprained ankle and right after comes a patient with chest pain and shortness of breath, that patient will go in before you do as it is a life threatening condition . Remember it is always a good idea to be informed!

Below are some guidelines to consider before deciding where to go. When unsure, it is best to go to the emergency department. If the situation is severe or life-threatening  call 911 immediately.

Common circumstances for the emergency department:

• Condition requires immediate care and is considered severe

• The onset of the condition is abrupt, moderate or severe

• The diagnosis is unknown

• The patient is a newborn, an infant or elderly

• The patient has underlying health issues such as diabetes or heart disease

• The patient needs assistance getting to the hospital

Common medical conditions for the emergency department:

• Chest pain

• Shortness of breath

• Altered mental status

• Fever in infant or elderly

• Headache that comes on abruptly or is classified as moderate or severe

• Lacerations greater than 1 inch; any facial laceration; or a laceration with contamination

• Trauma above the chest

• Possible concussion or head injury

• Abdominal pain

• Fever with rash

• Vaginal bleeding with pregnancy

• Evaluation for motorcycle or motor vehicle accident

• Broken bone at the wrist, hand, ankle or foot where the skin has been disturbed; broken bones anywhere else on the body; bones that clearly need to be reset

• Dislocation of any joint

Common circumstances for urgent care:

• Condition requires immediate care but not considered severe or life-threatening

• The onset of the condition is gradual and mild

• The diagnosis is known (for example, a urinary tract infection)

• The patient is otherwise healthy with no underlying medical conditions

• The patient is not an infant or elderly

• The patient can drive himself or herself

Common medical conditions for urgent care:

• Non-facial laceration less than about an inch

• Common sprain

• Cough with runny nose

• Sore throat

• Urinary tract infection

• Mild asthma

• Rash without fever

• Medication refills

• Laboratory checks

• High blood pressure management

• Follow up for an emergency department visit

• Broken bone at the wrist, hand, ankle or foot (with intact skin and no obvious need to reset bone)

Before an urgent-care need arises, patients should determine:

• The location of the nearest facility accepted by the patient’s insurance

• The facility’s hours of operation. Not all such centers are open 24 hours

• The types of physicians who staff the center (specialties may include emergency, internal or family medicine)

THE BASICS FOR THIS SEASON…

I’ve always thought that having the perfect jeans is a MUST during any season. I wear jeans all the time and as I mentioned before, in my case comfort comes first always. These are the ones that I love and totally recommend.

Some stores where you can find them are Bloomingdales and Nordstrom. They both have sales going on very often. I never pay full price. I always wait for a good deal. Usually Friends & Family SALE at bloomingdales or HALH YEARLY SALE at Nordstrom. Currently so close to Christmas they both have sales going on.

DIY Facial Masks/Treatments

Here are a 3 great  face treatments/masks that can be made with fresh ingredients found at home! Give them a whirl you’ll love them!!!! (Use them once or twice a week depending on your skin type and problem)

Cucumber Mask: This mask will help reduce redness and soothe any irritation.

  • Grate 1 cucumber and combine with 1 tablespoons of plain yogurt and 1 tablespoon of fresh cranberries (smashed)
  • Mix the ingredients together to create a paste
  • Apply mask to any red areas on your face,neck or chest.
  • Wait 5-10 minutes then rinse with warm water thoroughly and then moisturize.

Papaya Facial: This mask will brighten up your complexion and give your skin a radiant glow.

  • Combine 3 tablespoons of mashed papaya with 2 tablespoons mashed banana, 2 tablespoons milk, 1 tablespoon coconut water and 1 tablespoon plain yogurt.
  • Stir mixture until it becomes a thick consistency, then chill in the fridge for an hour
  • Smooth mask over clean skin
  • After 5 minutes rinse with cool water

Pumpkin Treatment: This treatment will help you unclog pores to prevent those hideous zits!

  • Combine 1 tablespoon canned pumpkin puree with 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon flour and 1 egg.
  • Using a fork, beat the mix until it is smooth in consistency.
  • Smooth a thin layer onto clean dry skin (avoid eye area) and leave for 20 minutes.
  • Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

Healthy Skin…

We all have heard the phrase “YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT,” and I couldn’t agree more. If you want healthy skin, YES, it is true that you should always use the highest SPF moisturizer you can find, but most importantly, your skin reveals your eating habits and life style.

Eating well and exercising is essential for good skin. Once we realize that making wiser choices when it comes to food has infinite benefits, we will start seeing the changes in our body and skin. It is always about having good habits. Nowadays we all have very busy lives and eating healthy and working out every day can be pretty challenging. One very important thing to always keep in mind is to start every day the BEST POSSIBLE WAY.

I’ll share with you my best way to start a day, 2 tips:

  1. 1.    Run/walk on a treadmill or outdoors every morning( or any type of physical activity)
  2. 2.    Prepare your own powerful and nutritious morning juice   

 

Commit yourself to run/walk on the treadmill/outdoors at least 45 minutes every day. When you wake up in the morning, do not hesitate about doing it, simply do it. Every day that you do it, you’ll feel great about yourself for the rest of the day. Once you finish working out, a night before have the following ingredients washed/peeled and ready to put on your blender.

  1.     1 bunch of fresh Italian parsley
  2.     1 handful of spinach
  3.     1 piece of celery
  4.     1 big size orange
  5.     1 carrot

 

Once you put everything in the blender, pour a small amount of commercial pineapple and orange juice until you cover a quarter of all the ingredients in your blender (to add more flavor), add water, blend everything and you’re DONE!!!

–      Italian parsley is great for circulation, if you get easily bruised, the Italian parsley will definitely help.

–      The spinach and the celery have lots of antioxidants. Good for your immune system.

–      Orange, vitamin C

–      Carrots, good for your vision and skin color

All these amazing benefits in this delicious morning juice. Try to always eat very colorful meals. The more color the food has, the more antioxidants. And for those occasional not very healthy snacks, you need to exercise to get rid of all those toxins. Your skin and body will show it!!!
