WHAT CAUSES UNHAPPINESS?

Let’s slowly and carefully read the following intriguing quote by the brilliant Eckhart Tolle.

“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it. Be aware of the thoughts you are thinking. Separate them from the situation, which is always neutral , which always is as it is. Be aware that what you think to a large extent, creates the emotions that you feel. See the link between your thinking and your emotions. Rather than being your thoughts and emotions, be the awareness behind them. Awareness is the greatest agent for change.”

-Eckhart Tolle

I’ll be quoting Eckhart Tolle very often. Reading his book “A New Earth” has been truly transformational in my life. The quote mentioned above is one of my favorites because it yells truth in every word.

One example, if you lose your job you might say, “I’ve been fired, I’m ruined” as oppose to facing the facts. “I don’t have my old job anymore, I need to get a new job,” that is a fact. Obsessing about the way you lost your job and the reasons why you lost your job, creates a negative story in your head. This story that your mind has created for you is so powerful that prevents you from finding a solution to the situation in the NOW. Lack of action in the NOW gives you plenty of time for negative thoughts and emotions.

Once we become aware of the power of the thoughts we create, we will have a very easy choice to make every day. Should I choose to create negative thoughts that will only make me unhappy and attract more negative energy? or should I simply choose to face the facts and look for solutions in the NOW.

Living in the NOW is empowering, the NOW is all we have, we might as well live it to the FULLEST 😉
