Power of Juicing….

Recently I have been hearing more and more about  juicing. I hear that it has a lot of benefits so I thought I’d do a bit of research before actually trying it myself and here is what I found.

Obviously we all know that eating fruits and vegetables will aid you in being healthier and helps prevent a variety of diseases. What I didn’t know was that  it can help prevent heart disease, cancer, and obesity.  That is a huge benefit! Not only that, but it helps your body repair and detoxify all the junk we put in it. It also promotes the health of cells and organs in your body.

Another reason why juicing is good is that the body can quickly absorb larger amounts of nutrients from juices than from solid foods because the process of digestion that is necessary when you eat whole foods is bypassed. So you can see that fresh juice made at home has a lot more benefits than store bought. Fresh juice rejuvenates your body and boosts your immune system so your body can heal itself. Bottom line is I think I am going to give it a whirl!

I am following up with a list of juices and their benefits. Remember that you should always consult your physician before starting anything new that will affect your health.

Healthy Skin…

November 24, 2010 Leave a comment

We all have heard the phrase “YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT,” and I couldn’t agree more. If you want healthy skin, YES, it is true that you should always use the highest SPF moisturizer you can find, but most importantly, your skin reveals your eating habits and life style.

Eating well and exercising is essential for good skin. Once we realize that making wiser choices when it comes to food has infinite benefits, we will start seeing the changes in our body and skin. It is always about having good habits. Nowadays we all have very busy lives and eating healthy and working out every day can be pretty challenging. One very important thing to always keep in mind is to start every day the BEST POSSIBLE WAY.

I’ll share with you my best way to start a day, 2 tips:

  1. 1.    Run/walk on a treadmill or outdoors every morning( or any type of physical activity)
  2. 2.    Prepare your own powerful and nutritious morning juice

Commit yourself to run/walk on the treadmill/outdoors at least 45 minutes every day. When you wake up in the morning, do not hesitate about doing it, simply do it. Every day that you do it, you’ll feel great about yourself for the rest of the day. Once you finish working out, a night before have the following ingredients washed/peeled and ready to put on your blender.

  1.     1 bunch of fresh Italian parsley
  2.     1 handful of spinach
  3.     1 piece of celery
  4.     1 big size orange
  5.     1 carrot

Once you put everything in the blender, pour a small amount of commercial pineapple and orange juice until you cover a quarter of all the ingredients in your blender (to add more flavor), add water, blend everything and you’re DONE!!!

–      Italian parsley is great for circulation, if you get easily bruised, the Italian parsley will definitely help.

–      The spinach and the celery have lots of antioxidants. Good for your immune system.

–      Orange, vitamin C

–      Carrots, good for your vision and skin color

All these amazing benefits in this delicious morning juice. Try to always eat very colorful meals. The more color the food has, the more antioxidants. And for those occasional not very healthy snacks, you need to exercise to get rid of all those toxins. Your skin and body will show it!!!

Hope you like it. Good Health 😉

Tequila Lime Chicken Cilantro Pasta

November 10, 2010 Leave a comment

So this week I began to look for new recipes to make at home as I am trying not to eat out as much to save some money for other fun stuff. As I was searching online, I stumbled upon this Tequila Lime Chicken Cilantro Pasta. I was drawn to it just from the name! So I jotted down the recipe and gave it a whirl. It tasted AMAZING!!!!!!!!! So here it is for all of you to try out!

1 lb skinless boneless chicken tenders
1 bunch of fresh cilantro
1/2 cup Tequila
Jucie of 2 limes plus zest
1 lb pasta of choice (I prefer whole wheat)
1 clove of garlic
2tbsp olive oil + 5tbsp olive oil
Salt & pepper to taste
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil, cook pasta according to package direction, once pasta is cooked, drain and add 5tbsp of olive oil to prevent pasta from sticking.
In a seperate pan add 2tbsp olive oil and chopped garilc, cook until fragrant approximately 2 minutes. Add the skinless, boneless chicken tenders cook until golden on ea. side ~4-6 minutes per side. Add the zest & lime juice, salt and pepper, follow with the tequilla. Allow to cook until the alcohol is evaporated about 3 minutes. Insure that the chicken is fully cooked ~160F. Top off with the fresh chopped cilantro. Add the chicken mix to the pasta and enjoy.

This week I want to tell you about a small place I discovered. This is a small family owned place but the food is spectacular. This restaurant combines two of my favorites, PIZZA and SUSHI! I must tell you that I die for pizza. I could eat it every day if I could afford to buy bigger pants every week! The pizza at Ue Kara is indescribably delicious. Well I loved it so much I came back again last week, this time I ordered  half a California Roll and a Teriyaki Bowl (hey I was hungry!). I was beyond surprised yet again. It came with miso soup, salad, a huge bowl of  Chicken Teriyaki on top of a bed of perfectly steamed rice not just your usual pile of rice and 3 small pieces of chicken.  Again, everything was d’lish! Service was great, the owner actually served my table… And did I mentioned that their prices are out of this world cheap for the portions, quality and taste of the food! Check them out, you will not be disappointed!
